Doesn’t coaching take a lot of time?
Anything worthwhile takes an investment of time, and time spent with a coach is an investment in yourself.
According to a coaching study conducted at Ashridge Business School, two-hour coaching sessions, four to six weeks apart is an effective model for a coaching engagement. If we include activities related to coaching, you would spend about one hour per week in coaching activities.
Is that too much time to spend on your professional development?
Isn’t coaching the same as mentoring? Isn’t it too ‘touchy feely’, like therapy?
A mentor is the “sage on the stage,” while the coach is the “guide on the side.”
Mentoring is usually informal, open-ended and intended to provide advice and answers to questions about the organisation.
Coaching has clearly defined goals, time limits and mutual accountabilities. Coaches don’t give you answers or tell you what to do; coaches help you discover answers for yourself.
A therapist’s role is that of a healer, while a coach is a catalyst, helping you develop your potential and improve your performance. We don’t explore your family history, try to change your personality. Our training and ethical approach mean we are clear on the boundary between what we do and what therapists do.
Isn’t coaching only for senior managers/leaders?
We believe it can benefit a wide variety of people.
Coaching is indeed often used to support the development of high potential managers and staff e.g.
Managers at all levels of an organisation can benefit from coaching.
However, we have also coached people not in a managerial role.
We specialise in Career Coaching too, for those in work or not; and we also offer Team Coaching.
Isn’t coaching just for people who have problems, not successful people?
Coaching helps the good and the best get even better and works best for motivated performers who want to achieve even more or who may feel “stuck” in certain areas of performance or behaviour. Some of the top leaders in the FTSE 100 and the Fortune 100 have their own coaches.
Coaching is often used to support good performers who are facing difficult challenges. Leaders moving into new roles with greater responsibility are avid users of coaching.
Coaching is less successful as a last-ditch effort to “save” someone. Poor performers tend not to take coaching seriously, may even resist being coached so rarely a good return on the investment.
Isn’t coaching very expensive?
Comparing the costs of training and coaching - if you attend a leadership training programme, your costs could include travel, accommodation, meals, plus course fees. Not to mention the hidden costs of being away from work. Possibly longer hours when you return.
If you work with a coach for a few hours a month, the coach comes to you, maybe meeting at your work, near your home, travel costs may be lower.
(We offer online coaching too where it would be beneficial).
So what are the options? How does it work?
We send you general information and arrange a telephone/video call so you can decide, agree timescales, aims etc . There is no cost for this.
Coaching sessions usually last 90 - 120 mins. The number and duration of the whole contract varies depends on what you want to achieve, context, budget etc. We offer very flexible packages, hard to generalise, but popular options include:
A) A ‘call off contract’ i.e. a min. number of sessions then 'pay as you go' after that.
B) A package of 3 sessions, of
90 mins approx. you choose duration.
C) A package of 6 sessions of
90 mins.
Terms apply.
Isn’t it risky to open up and talk frankly to a coach?
Confidentiality is one of the hallmarks of coaching.
Trust implies sincerity, authenticity and requires confidentiality on the part of the coach.
Respect is about accepting another person for who they are, who they present themselves to be.
In order to have freedom of expression, we need to be comfortable and believe the coach can help us achieve our goals.
Our Coaches are trained, qualified and abide by the European Mentoring and Coaching Council's code of ethics
and there are more...........

PSYCHOMETRICS
DIAGNOSTICS
FEEDBACK
Sometimes we are not fully aware of how we relate to others and vice versa, why we tend to find certain people easier than others to work with. The good news is there is a way of increasing self-awareness and understanding, to improve insights into the behaviours of the people around you – both at work and in your personal life.
Psychometrics can appear too complicated. Yet the majority of organisations who invest time in understanding and embedding them into their development practices, continue to do so time and again. More than 75% of the Times Best Companies to Work For and 80% of Fortune 500 companies use them.
At The People Advantage we use the following tools for development NOT recruitment. Essential for:
AND the most important aspect of all, it leads to a deeper conversation about what you can do about what you find!
We can help you with 360/180 degree feedback tools, confidential feedback meetings and training for managers.
360 or 180 degree feedback - the aim is is to help you gain a rounded view of how you are perceived by others, understand your strengths and weaknesses and highlight aspects of your work needing professional development.
There are 360 questionnaires we could tailor to suit you/your organisation, or link to your competency/ behavioural framework.
Not sure yet? We can help you find out?
A robust foundation for lifelong personal development. We see MBTI as a tool to start a conversation not an end in itself.
We are more than just the sum of our preferences and you will not feel you have been 'put in a box'.
MBTI is usually used with individuals but can also help a team’s awareness, raise the level of mutual respect for each other. Or we could deploy the Team Management Profile (see right)
The best known, most trusted personality assessment on the market, MBTI provides a constructive, flexible framework for understanding individual differences/ strengths, helping you understand your personality traits, biases, drives stresses, triggers and strengths, within or outside the context of a group.
You receive a highly personalised profile and development plan to help improve communication, make better decisions, manage change, deal with conflicts and build cohesive teams.
Trained by the leading practitioner in the UK, Angie is qualified to administer both Step 1: a positive framework to explain how we interact with the world/ each other and Step 2 insight into the unique way we express our personality type; as we mature and crucially, when we are under stress.
The Team Management Profile (TMP) will help you get to know more about yourself, the way you lead, communicate with others and how team members make different contributions. The TMP provides a TEAM PROFILE and a common language for you and the team. Everyone receives an individualised 24 -page report.
The TMP is most powerful when used with whole teams. It could be any shape and size - a well-defined, established team, or loose and fragmented; working in a hybrid model or in a matrix; maybe it's a culturally or functionally diverse team.
Often we combine understanding the different preferences, working styles of each member with a particular theme e.g. team communication, engaging with new ways of working, stress, conflict, negotiation.
Because no two individuals have exactly the same expectations and desires, conflict is a natural part of our interactions with others.
TKI has been the leader in conflict resolution assessment for over 40 years and is designed to measure a person's behaviour in conflict situations where the concerns of two people appear to be incompatible. Used sensitively, it can open discussions on difficult issues and facilitate learning about how conflict-handling modes affect personal, group, and organisational dynamics.
